Star Style

June 26th, 2008, New York, NY -- I’ve seen this image pop up a few times now during my web-surfing and it’s always managed to catch my eye. While this may be in part due to my respect for Kate Hudson as a trendsetter ever since that amazing Valentino dress she wore to the 2003 Golden Globes, this time I’m not sure whether it can be attributed to Hudson’s enviably sweat-free and cool appearance that so many of us strive to attain in this recent horrid humidity and heat or the shock of her holding a coffee cup with a heat sleeve around it despite New York’s 100 degree weather. But after a good portion of my time today spent figuring out how I could look as fresh and unflustered in these temperatures I realized what my eye is drawn to each time this picture comes up: her bag.

I immediately recognized it as an Isabel Marant bag, being a proud owner of my own for a few months now. The rich color and the supple, pebbly quality of the leather is the very first thing I notice about Marant purses, this one included; despite the poor caliber of these paparazzi shots, I can still see how beautiful the leather is. Secondly, their amazing functionality: Marant designs her bags with women on the go in mind, each pocket deliberately and perfectly placed, each strap the perfect length for easy carrying in a variety of different ways, and constructed with only the highest quality and lightest-weight of leathers. And one of my favorite things about these purses is that the leather keeps improving with age, getting softer with each use.

Fortunately for us at Mick Margo, Marant’s Aker bag is available at the shop, even though it seems to be sold out almost everywhere else, as well as much of Marant’s Spring/Summer collection, which boasts the same high quality fabric and craftsmanship, as well as functional and beautiful design. -- Hayley Coupon

June 16th, 2008, New York, NY -- The one of a kind Beca Bag that Joy Gryson designed specifically for her trip down the CFDA’s red carpet is being auctioned off exclusively through Mick Margo to benefit Family Focus Adoption Services.  Joy was nominated for the CFDA’s Swarovski Award for Accessory Design and carried the bright blue eel skin bag with her that evening as she was photographed at the event some call, “The Oscars of Fashion.”

Joy gained her years of experience for Coach, Calvin Klein and finally Marc Jacobs before launching her namesake accessory label in the fall of 2006.  In just two short years her talent for working with elegant shapes and great hardware led her to one of the top honors in her field.  Joy chose to auction her one-of-a-kind creation after the awards and give the proceeds to the non-profit Family Focus Adoption Services, which is a cause close to her heart as she was adopted and her mother, Maris Belchner, is the Executive Director and founder.  The organization has placed almost 1,000 babies and children since its inception 20 years ago.  For more information on the charity, please click here.  To see other Gryson styles please visit Joy's designer page here.
