SHOPPE STORY
Mick Margo was born Michael Margolis in 1912 in central London. Michael was smack in the middle of five siblings and found himself wanting to differentiate himself seeing as the Margolis name thrived in the community. Shortly before starting what grew to become one of the most successful toy retailers in all of London, Michael Margo legally changed his name to Mick Margo.
Mick was a dapper gentleman and social butterfly, taking his fine looking wife named Renee on his arm wherever he went. He often found himself pulling together various grand charity events to raise money for issues that he was most passionate about in his life. He loved dressing for these events, typically donning a dark suit with an ascot tucked neatly around his neck, a top hat and tails. Renee was never seen without her fox stole. The Margos exuded a simple elegance that others would notice upon simply passing by.
Mick Margo - his image, his larger than life personality, his business success, his generosity in life and his unconditional love for the people who meant the most to him in life is the ultimate inspiration. The store embodies a British sensibility drawing from different elements of the Margo style brought to life by a modern New York City woman.
The owner has drawn inspiration from her ever-so-proper British grandfather, Mick Margo. The shoppe has been created as a means to commemorate him and his dapper European sense of style translated into womenswear. Mick passed away several years ago, but at age nineteen she had the opportunity to spend time with him which impacted her greatly. While studying abroad she would find herself escaping over long weekends to spend time with him in London where they’d chat for hours over a morning cup of tea in his quaint flat.
